Tesuque: Day and Night

The data, collected one frame a minute, 24 hours a day for 14 months produced over 600,000 images that were edited into the final version. Pre-sunrise greys before first light instigate discussions between birds or bugs announcing the particular, impending day. Cyclic modulation of light and wind, momentary shifting temperature, moisture, and other variables dictate the chatter.

During the process of working on Tesuque: Day & Night, it became clear that each population has a unique tone and rhythm: one can identify what belongs to Tesuque in general, and to this garden specifically. These sounds were recorded and reduced to waveform for this piece.
