Pastels

These works were made by laying down handmade high-pigment pastel, then rubbing it with silk. The silk cut the surface of the paper so that the pigment was more readily embedded.

In the larger works, the initial finger pattern evolved into a complex brick-like structure, as seen in Green Sea and Homage (1981).

Green Sea was in a collection at the World Trade Center in New York City, and was destroyed with the towers in 2001.
